Born in Eunice, LA, to the union of Rev. Joel Greene, Sr. & Sis. Alice Antoine Greene, President Joel S. Greene, Jr., is the second born of six children. He was baptized in 1964 at the Historical Golden Star Baptist Church, also in Eunice, where his grandfather, Rev. Melvin Greene, Sr., was the founder and pastor. Pastor Joel Greene, Jr. is the husband of Sis. Betty McZeal Greene. They have been married for forty-eight (48) years and have one daughter, three sons, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
Currently, Rev. Greene is the pastor of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Patoutville, LA and he is the pastor and founder of Bellevue Street Baptist Church in Opelousas. He is a certified instructor on the local, state, and national levels of the Greater Louisiana Baptist State Convention and National Baptist Convention, USA.
President Greene attended and graduated from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA, and Southern University New Orleans to advance his secular education. He has such a zeal for the Word that he began teaching Sunday School at the tender age of eleven (11). Coming from such a prominent family of ministers and pastors, it was imperative for him to seek theological education. He is a graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
He was blessed to travel to Jerusalem and experience walking along the same land as Jesus, preach a sermon in Jerusalem on a Sunday morning, and be baptized in the Jordan River. He also traveled to Israel and experienced Paul’s missionary journey in Greece, where he also preached in Thessalonica.
President Greene’s favorite hymn is “Amazing Grace,” and his favorite Scriptures are Deuteronomy 6:5 and Matthew 5:33. He always strives to do more to help others allow Christ into their lives, and he emphasizes giving all honor and praise to the Lord.
